Mentawai Parliament Confirms No Change to PERDA No16 |

This letter is just received by the MMTA and it is confirming that PERDA No.16 Tahun 2002 should be implemented unchanged to improve management of tourism in Mentawai and to improve conditions for resort companies in the area. A new tax will be approved on the 22nd of August 2007 and applied to all tourism companies in the area. (Companies agree to pay Boat tax) This advice is for all member boat owners and agents. Below is the current list of boats operating in Mentawai in 2007. All boats in the first two lists are registered with the Mentawai Government authorities and are covered by the 'grace period' announced by the MMTA and the Mentawai Department of Tourism earlier this year. The grace period expires at the end of 2007. The Mentawai Government has confirmed that PERDA No 16 rules will apply in 2008. |
